What is a screw pile?

Screw piles, sometimes referred to as screw anchors, screw-piles, helical piles, and helical anchors are a steel screw-in piling and ground anchoring system used for building deep foundations. Screw piles are manufactured using varying sizes of tubular hollow sections for the pile or anchors shaft.

What is the capacity limit on a Screw pipe?

The capacity limit varies depending on the size of the pipe used. Typically between 1000 - 500,000 lbs.

Who invented the Screw Pile?

In 1833 Alexander Mitchell, a blind Civil Engineer from Ireland invented the Helical Pile.  He won the Telford Medal for his creation.  The first recorded use of helical piles was in 1836 for river moorings for ships.
